About: Cynthia is a fourth-year in the Biomedical Discovery & Commercialization program. She joined the Brown Lab in 2025 and is investigating how modulating the bacterial membrane’s proton motive force influences its physiology and susceptibility to antibiotics. Outside of the lab she enjoys hiking and exploring new cafes.

Position: Undergraduate Thesis Student

About: Alina is a fourth-year in the Biomedical Discovery and Commercialization program. She joined the Brown lab in 2025, and her thesis work investigates restoring β-lactam efficacy through inhibition of fatty acid biosynthesis. She is passionate about the overlap between medicine and education, and in her free time you can find her doing martial arts or curling up with her cats.

About: Harane is a fourth-year in the Biochemistry & Biomedical Sciences program. She joined the lab in 2025 and her thesis work involves finding redundancies in vitamin transporters in bacteria to inform nutrient antibiotic discovery. Outside of the lab she enjoys music, movies, and travelling.

Position: Undergraduate Thesis Student

About: Shivum is a fourth-year in the Molecular Biology and Genetics, Co-op program. He joined the Brown Lab in 2025 and is working on a C. elegans behavioural platform to identify neuroactive fungal metabolites. Outside of the lab he enjoys swimming and scuba diving.

Position: Undergraduate Thesis Student

About: Arham is entering his fourth-year of the Integrated Science Program and joined the Brown lab in April 2026. His thesis will investigate genome-wide responses to antibiotics to uncover resistance mechanisms and new bacterial targets. Outside of the lab Arham enjoys going to the gym, playing basketball and going on late-night walks.

Position: Undergraduate Thesis Student

About: Hebah is a fourth-year in the Biomedical Discovery and Commercialization Program. She joined the Brown Lab in 2026 and her work focuses on understanding how weak acids can potentiate antibiotics to inform future antimicrobial strategies. Outside of the lab, she enjoys singing, playing guitar, and spending time with her cats.


David Yap

David Yap

Position: Undergraduate Thesis Student

About: David is a fourth-year in the Honours Life Science - Origins of Disease Specialization Program and joined the Brown Lab in 2026 for his senior thesis. His work focuses on exploring the fitness cost of beta-lactamases in minimal media and human serum, to inform novel therapeutic strategies. Outside of the lab, David is a dedicated dragon boat athlete, aspiring home cook, and an avid Pokemon Nuzlocke enjoyer.
